Old Westbury is a village home in both Oyster Bay and North Hempstead on the North Shore of Long Island. The first settlers to Old Westbury were English Quakers in the 1670’s. Those looking to build country homes were attracted to the area between 1880 and 1920 due to the beautiful rolling hills and farmland. Quite a few of the large estates that still stand today were built during this time.
Old Westbury is served by three school districts including Union Free School District, Jericho Union Free School District, and East Williston Union Free School District. The area is one that has an atmosphere of exclusion and elegance with shopping only a few minutes away at the American Mall in Manhasset or Wheatley Plaza in East Hills.
The most popular attraction beside the elegant homes is Old Westbury Gardens which was at one time owned by John Phipps, Harry Payne Whitney, and Thomas Hitchcock Sr. whose properties are now known as Old Westbury Gardens offering an arboretum, a museum, and 160 acres of woodlands, beautiful formal gardens, and breathe-taking landscaped grounds.
